- Lumberton Regional Airport has begun work on a $5.6 million project to rehabilitate Runway 5-23. This project includes soil stabilization under the runway with a foam grout, storm water drain line replacement under the runway, and will finish with a 6" overlay. This will increase the strength of the runway to 90,000 lbs dual wheel (current strength is 45,000 lbs dual wheel) which will allow Lumberton Regional Airport to accommodate larger aircraft. This is the first major runway rehabilitation that addresses subsurface problems at Lumberton Regional since it was constructed in 1939. Work is scheduled to be completed in May, just before the Mid Atlantic Fly In on May 16, 17, and 18, 2008, and Sport Aviation Convention.
